    MTN Nigeria changes service codes to 301, others

    Mobile telecommunication company, MTN Plc, has announced the change of its recharge and data activation codes.

    Subscribers on the MTN network used *555* for recharging and *131# for buying data but that has now changed.

    Though MTN did not give reasons for the change in codes, however, the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), on the 14th of March 2023, released a harmonized short codes to be used by mobile network operators and customers in the country.

    The codes according to the NCC are designed to help make telecommunication services easier and less burdensome for both the users and the network providers.

    Dear customer, this is to inform you of a change in our recharge activation code. “You can now recharge your lines using *311*recharge pin# instead of
    * 555*recharge pin#. We encourage you to start using the code for your convenience,” the telco said.

    • MTN, Airtel, others appointed by FIRS to withhold VAT

    Adding, “Dear Customer, You can now buy data bundles using *312# instead of *131#. We encourage you to start using the new code for your convenience.

    Releasing the new codes in a social media post, MTN said:

    1. To check your account balance, dial *310#
    2. To recharge using pins, dial *311#
    3. To subscribe to our juicy data plans, dial *312#
    4. To check your data balance, dial *323#
    5. To borrow airtime or data dial *303#
    7. To manage your active value-added service (VAS) subscription and check out new VAS, dial *305#
    8. To call our call centre, dial 300
