Al-Hilal has signed Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou on a three-year contract from Spanish club Sevilla, the Saudi Pro League team announced on Thursday.

“The Atlantic lion is our goalie,” Al-Hilal said on X, previously known as Twitter.

The specifics of the agreement were not released, but according to Spanish media, Sevilla would get 21 million euros ($22.8 million).

The agreement was supported by HRH Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, according to Al-Hilal.

Bounou, 32, was Sevilla’s first-choice goalkeeper, assisting the Spanish team to two Europa League championships and Morocco to the World Cup semi-finals in Qatar last year.

Bounou, also known as Bono, was apparently a target for Real Madrid and Bayern Munich as a temporary replacement for Thibaut Courtois and Manuel Neuer, who were both injured.

Al-Hilal is the most successful club in Saudi Arabia and Asia, having won 66 trophies in total, including 18 domestic league wins and four Asian Champions League titles.

This week, Al-Hilal signed Brazilian striker Neymar from Paris St-Germain.

The club re-signed former Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Ruben Neves, Serbia’s Sergei Milinkovic-Savic, Senegal defender Kalidou Koulibaly, and Brazilian attacker Malcom on one-year contracts.

On Saturday, Al-Hilal will face Al-Feiha in the next round of the Saudi Pro League.
