Angry youths in Niger State have brutally killed an immigration officer, Isah Mohammed, following a land dispute between two communities.

The Immigration officer, a Doko indigene from the Zhitsu Babi area, was killed on his field during a conflict between the Doko and Kupafu populations in Niger’s Lavun Local Government Area.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, when the victim went to his property and was allegedly attacked by some hoodlums believed to be from the other village over the land issue.

It was gathered that the land dispute between the two communities which led to the death of the Immigration officer, had gone on for years without any resolution by the traditional institution or law enforcement agencies.

Wasiu Abiodun, spokesman for the Niger State Police Command, verified the occurrence, stating that the victim was brought to the Umaru Sanda General Hospital in Bida, where he was pronounced dead.

“On 14/8/2024 at about 1130hrs, it was reported at Doko Div that one Isah Mohammed of Zhitsu Babi area of Doko was attacked in the farm by some suspected irate youths of Kupafu village over a lingering farmland tussle.

“The victim was attacked and became unconscious; police operatives from Doko Div rushed to the scene, but the miscreants had fled.

“The victim was taken to Umaru Sanda Ndayako General Hospital, Bida, where he was confirmed dead.

“However, investigation has commenced into the unfortunate incident to arrest the perpetrators of the act and ensure that justice is served,” he said.
