An airplane conveying the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has reportedly crash-landed near the Ibadan Airport in Oyo State.

According to reports, the incident happened on Friday night.

As of the time of filing this report, it cannot be confirmed if Adelabu or those on board sustained any injuries in the incident which happened after the Nigerian Metrological Agency (NiMET) issued a travel warning based on hazy weather.

As the dry season approaches, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has also advised pilots and airlines to exercise caution.

According to reports, the chartered airplane Flint Short Aero, an HS 125 with the registration number 5N-AMM, made an initial contact with the control tower at 18:56, requesting an extension, which was approved by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).

The plane took off from Abuja, bound for Ibadan.

According to our source, Adelabu’s airplane landed around 50 metres short of the runway and skidded into a bushy ditch beside the runway.

Despite being alerted of the catastrophic occurrence, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has failed to publish a statement.

Mr. Tunji Oketunmbi, an NSIB spokesperson, informed newsmen that the Bureau’s investigators were on the ground in Ibadan to determine the immediate and remote causes of the occurrence.
