Michael Driscoll, an English boxing instructor who is well-known among the sport’s biggest names, has been accused of sexual assault.

Driscoll was reportedly fired last year following a number of claims made to the Sheffield-based organization, which had sought an independent investigation into the allegations.

Police, who had previously received complaints, reopened an earlier closed investigation and have now revealed that former lead performance coach Mick Driscoll, 54, has been charged with three charges of sexual assault on a female.

The boxing instructor won the European Boxing Confederation’s inaugural national coach of the year in 2018.

He oversaw three golds and a bronze medal for England’s fighters in the Youth Olympic Games and helped the country’s teenagers capture 34 major championship medals throughout his tenure.

“Michael Driscoll, 54, of Portsmouth, has been charged with three charges of sexual assault on a female,” stated a Sussex Police spokesperson.

“He is still free to appear in Crawley Magistrates’ Court on January 19, 2024” the police added.

The former boxer, has won two National Elite Championships.

He represented England and nearly missed out on a spot in the light-welterweight division at the 1988 Olympics.
