A 37-year-old man, Opeyemi Olaniyan, has been arrested for allegedly killing Ayomide Oyekunle, 27, during a fight at a beer parlour in Agbado, Ifo local government area of Ogun State.
The incident reportedly began over a N25,000 debt. Olaniyan allegedly became violent when he did not receive the money owed and used a broken bottle to stab Oyekunle in the hand and stomach.
The victim was rushed to Strong Tower Hospital, Giwa Oke Aro, but died while receiving treatment.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the arrest, noting the suspect is in police custody. The deceased’s body has been deposited at Life Channel Morgue, Olambe, for autopsy.
Babaseyi said the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID), Abeokuta, for further investigation and likely prosecution.
Police warned that violent behaviour over debts could attract serious legal consequences.
