On Friday, the Oyo State Police Command paraded 21 armed robbery suspects, including a gang that killed one Makanjuola Ogedengbe and raped his two daughters in Apaatuku/Onireke village, Akobo, Lagelu Local Government Area of the state.

The victims are 14 and 10 years old respectively.

Parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, said the suspects were assisting the police with vital information.

Osifeso stated that the suspects, who were armed with dangerous weapons, stormed the area on Sunday, May 14, 2023, around 2 a.m., robbed residents of their valuables, and shot the deceased at close range.

Osifeso said, “On May 14, 2023, at about 0400hrs, a group of armed robbers invaded Apaatuku/Onireke at Akobo area in Ibadan and robbed residents of their valuables. The assailants killed one Makanjuola Ogedengbe and raped his two daughters, aged 14 years and 10 years respectively during the incident.

“The case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku for discreet investigation. During the investigation, it was revealed that one Ibrahim Rasaq ‘m’ 31 years, one Abiodun Olalekan ‘m’ 32 years, and one Abolade Morenikeji ‘m’ 34 years, who were earlier arrested in connection with the armed robbery operation at Sawia Estate at Ogbere in Ibadan, which was reported on April 16, 2023, were the same gang who invaded Apaatuku/Onireke community.

“The two daughters of the deceased were allegedly raped by Abolade Morenikeji ‘m’ and one Sodiq ‘m’ respectively. The said Sodiq, who was the group’s alleged leader was killed in the operation by the community security guards. The assailants also shot at the community’s night guard who is currently receiving treatment”.

He further stated that an informant of the group, a landlord who resides at Ajara Olohunda, Akobo, in Ibadan, was subsequently arrested in connection with the case.

“On June 16 2023 at about 03300hrs, one Adebayo Salami ‘m’ who is a major receiver/informant of the group and landlord at Ajara Olohunda, Akobo in Ibadan was arrested in connection with the case.

Retired Nigeria Police Force men and their families blocked a gate at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday to protest their continued inclusion in the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS). The demonstrators, led by the Police Retired Officers Forum of Nigeria (PROF), branded the program as "fraudulent, illegal, inhumane, and obnoxious" and urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sign the Police Exit Bill. According to the retirees, if signed into law, the bill, which was passed by the National Assembly on December 4, 2025, and transmitted to the president on March 16, 2026, would remove police personnel from the CPS. The National Coordinator of PROF, CSP Raphael Irowainu (retd.), led the protest and stated that the goal was to get the president to act on the legislation. “Our major aim here is to prevail on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sign our bill—the bill exiting the police from the Contributory Pension Scheme—passed by the National Assembly on 4th December 2025 and transmitted to him on 16th March 2026 into law, nothing more than that,” he said. Ads by Irowainu bemoaned that while other security agencies have been removed from the scheme, police personnel remain included. “The soldiers have been exited, the SSS has been exited, the Air Force has been exited, the Navy has been exited, and the National Intelligence Agency has been exited. The police, who are the father of them all, are trapped in this obnoxious Contributory Pension Scheme,” he added. The pensioners maintained that the CPS had a negative impact on their wellbeing, calling it a "slavery and untimely death-inducing pension scheme." Monday's demonstration is not the first time retired police officers have raised the issue. In July 2025, retirees held a similar demonstration at the National Assembly, seeking their expulsion from the plan. Some demonstrators, many of whom were elderly, also protested at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, expressing their dissatisfaction with the CPS's pension arrangements. The latest protest reflects rising frustration among retired police officers with pension reforms and their exclusion from benefits provided to other security organizations.
