Seyi Makinde, Oyo state governor has officially declared his intention to contest the presidency in the 2027 general elections.
Makinde made the announcement during a grand rally organised by the PDP–APM Alliance in Ibadan, drawing a large crowd of party supporters, stakeholders and political allies.
The declaration marks a significant development in the evolving political landscape ahead of the next general election cycle, as opposition parties intensify consultations and strategic alignments.
Supporters gathered in large numbers at the rally venue to witness what many described as a defining moment in Makinde’s political journey on the national stage.
Political observers believe the announcement could reshape internal discussions within the Peoples Democratic Party and allied political structures as preparations for party primaries and broader electoral strategies begin to gather momentum.
Makinde’s entry into the race is also expected to strengthen early calculations surrounding potential contenders for the 2027 presidential election, particularly within opposition circles and emerging coalition platforms.
The PDP–APM Alliance rally further served as a show of political unity among participating groups, with leaders urging greater collaboration ahead of future elections.
Supporters at the event expressed excitement following the governor’s declaration, describing it as a bold move capable of energising the opposition camp ahead of 2027.
More reactions are expected as political stakeholders respond to Makinde’s formal entry into the presidential race.
