Harry Maguire’s transfer to West Ham has been called off, with the defender preferring to stay at Manchester United and compete for a starting spot.
The England defender, 30, was ready to join the Hammers after the teams agreed on a deal worth £30 million.
Harry was deprived of his leadership this season after struggling for first-team appearances last season.
United, on the other hand, has stated that they will respect his desires and will not kick him out of the club.
According to a source close to the player, Maguire “respects West Ham and David Moyes,” but there was “never an agreement in place” about his personal terms.
“Harry remains settled at United, loves the club, and believes he will have plenty of opportunities to play this season,” they continued.
Harry was on the bench for United’s 1-0 win over Wolves on Monday but did not play, despite the fact that manager Erik ten Hag employed five replacements and replaced central defender Lisandro Martinez at halftime with Victor Lindelof.
Prior to the game, Ten Hag stated that Maguire should leave United if he is not confident enough to compete for a first-team berth.
