Tottenham’s new big signee, James Maddison, has come under severe backlash from fans of the club and football lovers at large over a statement he made about the club and some of its key players years ago on Twitter.

The midfielder who Tottenham Hotspur signed from Leicester City this summer for £40 million is alleged to have made racist comments towards Gareth Bale, the key Tottenham player at the time.

Stating his hatred for the Spurs, Maddison in a 2012 tweet which some have described as racist, “I hate Gareth Bale with a passion; calm down, you monkey; Wilshere is 10x better than you chimpanzee”.

Similarly, in 2013, Madison tweeted, “Hope Suarez destroys Tottenham today; I don’t like Spurs! Especially that monkey that everyone’s on about”.

Reacting to the tweet which was unearthed by Troll Football , a twitter user Muhammad Ntim  stated “I don’t care if he’s here or not. I’ll never like him, same way he hates Bale with a passion, I hate him with passions. I pray he doesn’t succeed’’.

Dennis noted “English players are so vocal on social media but offer nothing on the pitch. we’re used to that”. For Kastor Burren, ‘dragging a club and end up at it is crazy”.

Calling it the irony of life, Jayvees  said “lol, he used to be a Tottenham hater, and now he be used to the club that he hates before. Ah, irony of life’’.

Sarah  noted “never liked the guy. And bottled the penalty that could have kept his team up after snatching it from his teammate. Arrogant arse’’.

however, many came to Maddison’s defense. Some argued he was just a teenager at the time.

Iple men  argued “he was just a kid at the time.” George Stoodley stated “in fairness he was 15 lol”.

While another twitter user calls it “an unforgivable offence”, Destiny “sincerely think this is not necessary now. Let them enjoy their moments. Opinion change”.
