Liverpool and Bayern Munich have agreed a fee of 40 million euros (£34.3 million) for midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.

The 21-year-old Dutch international joined the German champions from Ajax last summer but has battled to break into the first team.

Gravenberch has only appeared as a substitute once this season.

Liverpool have been connected with him for much of the summer and are now hoping to complete a move before the transfer deadline on Friday.

This summer, the Reds have already signed Alexis MacAllister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Wataru Endo to bolster their midfield.

Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, two key midfielders, have left Anfield for Saudi Arabian teams, while James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have also moved on free transfers.

Gravenberch came via the Ajax youth system and made his debut for the club against PSV Eindhoven in September 2018.

Before joining Bayern for an initial 18.5 million euros, the box-to-box midfielder played 103 games for the Dutch club, scoring 12 goals.

He started just three games for Bayern last season in 24 Bundesliga appearances, and he made his first appearance this season as a late substitution in a 3-1 win against Augsburg on Sunday.
