Lavia’s injury scare adds to Chelsea’s woes

Chelsea are waiting to learn the extent of Romeo Lavia’s ankle injury after the midfielder picked it up during training.

Since arriving from Southampton for £58 million last month, the Lavia has yet to make an appearance for the Blues.

And after taking a knock in Chelsea training, the 19-year-old may have to wait even longer for his debut.

Lavia underwent an ankle scan, and the west Londoners are now awaiting the results.

This season, Chelsea has been handicapped by injuries to a number of its first-team stars.

After suffering a knee injury in pre-season versus Borussia Dortmund, Christopher Nkunku has yet to make his competitive debut for the club.

Defender Wesley Fofana, midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka, and attacker Armando Broja have all been out with similar injuries.

Reece James, the club’s captain, has been out with a hamstring injury since the club’s Premier League match against Liverpool.

Meanwhile, centre-backs Benoit Badiashile and Trevor Chalobah are both out with injuries.

After taking over as manager in July, Mauricio Pochettino has rapidly taken advantage of his squad’s depth.

However, it appears that Chelsea’s Achilles heel may be due to a packed treatment room once again.

After their first four games of the season, the Blues sit in 12th place in the standings.

With no European football for the Blues this season and big sums spent in the summer window, Pochettino’s squad is anticipated to perform admirably this time around.

However, a record of one win, two losses, and a draw has raised more concerns than answers thus far.

Following the international break, Chelsea will return to Premier League action with a trip to Bournemouth.
