Former spokesman to immediate past Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Laolu Akande, has urged President Bola Tinubu to declare war on kidnapping and other forms of criminality going on in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and other parts of the country.

In the opening section of Inside Sources, a programme anchored by the former presidential spokesman on Channels Television, Akande lamented the latest trend of kidnapping for ransom in Abuja.

“We have gotten to the situation where people now meet the dastardly demands of criminals just so they can sustain their security,” Akande said on My Take, the opening section of the programme.

“This sounds more like a jungle. This is not a jungle. This is the Federal Republic of Nigeria, where we have the instruments of force and coercion.”

“Time has come, Mr. President to declare an all-out war against every act of criminality in this country.

    • How kidnappers grip Abuja as Tinubu looks clueless

“Time has come to have a special intervention force to deal with this situation. Time has to have a standard operating procedure where there will be a short response time from the security agencies.

“Time has come to ensure by all means that there is effective funding of the Police and the NSCDC, especially to deal with what is becoming a troubling phenomenal in our country

“We trust that the President and his aides, the Inpector General of Police, the Commandant General of the NSCDC will rise up to the situation and everyone that is involved in the security archithecture of this country.

“We can not afford a situation where this form of criminality is encuraged by people who have no other choice than to raise ransom online,” Akande stated

The recent rise in the activities of kidnappers and other criminals ravaging the FCT and environs has raised lots of concern among Nigerians.
