The Lagos State Taskforce has intensified its clampdown on illegal commercial motorcycle operations, known as okada, with the recent seizure of 82 motorcycles in a series of raids across Berger, Mile 2 Oke, and Orile areas of the state.

Speaking on the operation, Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, reiterated the agency’s zero-tolerance stance towards illegal okada activities in restricted areas.

He warned that both riders and their passengers found violating the law would face strict penalties.

“Passengers on okada are as guilty as the riders. If caught, they will face the full weight of the law alongside the riders,” said CSP Akerele.

He emphasized that the agency’s goal is to ensure that Lagos roads remain safe and orderly for all road users.

All 82 impounded motorcycles are set to be forfeited to the Lagos State Government through legal processes, as part of efforts to discourage illegal commercial motorcycle operations.

Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the Director of Press and Public Affairs for the Lagos State Taskforce, echoed the agency’s commitment to enforcing the ban and urged residents to comply with the regulations.

“The Lagos State Taskforce remains dedicated to ensuring that Lagos roads are safe and motorable,” Abdulraheem noted. “We call on all residents to adhere to these rules, as our efforts are aimed at safeguarding lives and property throughout the state.”

The latest crackdown forms part of the Lagos State Taskforce’s continuous drive to enforce traffic regulations and maintain order on the state’s roads, reinforcing the government’s determination to create a safer environment for all Lagosians.
