The Lagos State Government has refuted allegations that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been asked to quit on health concerns, calling the claim untrue and misleading.
Gboyega Akosile, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, delivered the denial in a statement on Monday.
The government criticized an internet platform’s story, claiming that it was factually incorrect.
The statement read in part, “We have noted with concern a false report by … alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been ‘ordered to resign on health grounds’ with the deputy governor set to take over.
“This report is false in its entirety. Nobody has asked the Lagos governor to resign; this is another piece of fake news, which has become a pattern of…
“Governor Sanwo-Olu remains in good health, of sound mind, and is actively discharging his duties as governor of Lagos State.”
The government also responded to claims of a political meeting between the governor and his deputy, saying, “Earlier today, the governor received deputy governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who made him a courtesy visit to formally notify him of his decision to run for governor. The meeting was conducted in a friendly manner, as is normal.”
The Lagos State Government advised the public to dismiss the allegation, describing it as fake news.
The government claimed that Governor Sanwo-Olu is actively involved in state business and is carrying out his obligations without interruption.
