All eight male construction workers who were trapped in the wreckage of a collapsed building in Alagomeji, Ebute-Metta, Lagos State, have been rescued.

The four-story structure, which was under construction, collapsed at approximately 7:46 p.m. on Friday.

According to a statement issued by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services’ Deputy Comptroller, Olajide Ogabi, and obtained by Chronicle NG on Saturday, three persons were initially rescued following the incident.

“The building collapse at 333 Borno Way, Alagomeji, Ebute-Metta, Lagos, has all relevant emergency responders, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, at the scene, with three male adult victims already rescued alive while search and rescue continues for the remaining two construction workers still trapped in,” he stated.

While giving an update on the development, he stated that the search-and-rescue operations had reached ground zero, with no further casualties reported.

“All eight reported trapped victims (all adult male construction workers) have been rescued alive as search and rescue reached ground zero while evacuation of rubble continues,” he added.

The three-story building under construction collapsed on Friday night, September 12, 2025.

In a post on its X account on Saturday, the National Emergency Management Agency reported that the catastrophe occurred around 8:30 p.m., trapping several persons beneath the rubble.

The tragedy has heightened concerns about the state’s frequent building disasters. Furthermore, the tragedy occurred in Ebute-Metta, which has had a number of similar disasters resulting in injuries and deaths.

Meanwhile, preliminary results from emergency officials frequently revealed that structural flaws and the usage of poor materials could have contributed to the disasters.

This comes as the Lagos State Government has consistently stated its commitment to stricter oversight of development projects.
