Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, the Nigeria Democratic Congress vice presidential candidate, has urged former vice president Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, to withdraw from the 2027 presidential contest.
Kwankwaso made the call while hosting members of the Fulani Farmers Association at his Abuja residence.
He advised Atiku to focus on his traditional responsibilities.
He also highlighted Atiku’s age and health as reasons for the appeal, encouraging ADC members to persuade the candidate to withdraw from the presidential race.
The former Kano State governor stated, “Go to the Wazirin of Adamawa’s house and tell him in Fulani that he needs to focus on his traditional title of Wazirin, given his age and health.
“If Allah grants us success, we will take good care of him, especially since you all come from Adamawa. An apology should be offered to him.”
The appeal followed efforts to unite all opposition contenders to confront President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
In April, Atiku stated that the 2027 presidential race could be his final try, citing his age and the risks.
He ran for president numerous times, notably in 2007, 2011, 2019, and 2023, but lost each time.
Atiku has been a staunch supporter of restructuring, economic liberalization, and private-sector-driven prosperity.
