The Kogi State police command has disclosed that two of the abducted students of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, have been killed.

Chronicle NG reports that gunmen invaded the university and abducted students who were preparing for their examinations.

On May 14, Kingsley Fanwo, Kogi State Commissioner for Information, announced that 20 students had been rescued, with four still in captivity.

The state police commissioner, Bethrand Onuoha, spoke with NAN yesterday and termed the murders of the two students by their abductors “unfortunate.”

Onuoha did not provide any other information, but did state that security personnel were on the lookout for the kidnappers and will bring them to justice.

Education for All (E4A), a non-governmental group, denounced the pupils’ deaths, calling them the height of callousness.

Malam Nasir Ibrahim, the NGO’s publicity secretary, stated yesterday that the kidnappers were aiming to scare young people away from school, which was sad.

“It is sad that the criminals killed two of the students who were not among the 21 rescued through the operation coordinated by the Kogi government.

“This is sad, callous, and a call for collective action against attackers of educational institutions.

“We are aware that the parents of the students were negotiating with the kidnappers, which slowed down the offensive on the kidnappers by security agencies so as not to endanger the lives of the captives.”
