Kidnappers have released Kaduna judge Janet Gimba, who was kidnapped along with her four children on Sunday.

However, the judge’s husband, Dr. Musa Gimba, who confirmed the release, stated that the children are still being held by the kidnappers.

Gimba, a medical practitioner, stated that the kidnappers are seeking a ransom of N150 million for the release of the remaining children within three days, threatening to kill them if they do not pay.

Mansir Hassan ASP, the Public Relations Officer of the Kaduna State Police Command, stated that the bandits murdered the judge’s 14-year-old eldest son, Victor.

He stated that on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, operatives discovered Victor’s corpse at Ungwan Bayero, Duste village, near the entrance of the Kaduna-Abuja highway.

The police official stated that in the aftermath of the incident, the command and other sister security authorities are working feverishly to rescue the victims and apprehend the terrorists.

It was gathered that human rights lawyer and Chief Executive Officer of the House of Justice, Gloria Ballason, said in a statement on Wednesday that the judge and her four children were kidnapped by the bandits on Sunday.

“The abductors, reported to have been about 15, took their captives hostage and demanded a huge sum as ransom.

“On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, the terrorists shot dead the 14-year-old first son of the judge when the ransom demanded could not be obtained,” Ballason, a human rights lawyer, had said.

Ballason described the murder of Victor, the judge’s 14-year-old son, as “grisly and blood-curdling,” claiming that no parent deserved the pain of witnessing their kid being slaughtered in such a cold, callous manner.

She had urged Nigerian security forces, the Governor of Kaduna State, the Nigeria Bar Association, and the judiciary to recognise the gravity of the situation and act quickly to safeguard the judge and her children from the kidnappers while also ensuring justice is served.
