Kenechukwu Oluwanifemi Uba, a Nigerian student, has been named the “Top in World” candidate for the November 2024 Cambridge IGCSE English as a Second Language (Speaking Endorsement).
Uba, a Caleb British International School student in Magodo, Lagos, got the Outstanding Cambridge Learners Award from Cambridge University Press & Assessment for her outstanding performance.
This was said in a statement signed by the spokesperson for the proprietor and founder of the Caleb Group of Schools and University, Prof. Elvis Otobo, and made accessible to PUNCH Online on Friday.
The certificate, signed by Rod Smith, Group Managing Director of International Education at Cambridge, was delivered during a ceremony hosted by the British Council and Cambridge University Press & Assessment at the Civic Centre in Lagos.
Speaking about the achievement, Dr Oladega Adebogun, Proprietor/CEO of Caleb Group of Schools and University, stated that Kenechukwu’s win reflected the school’s ideals of integrity, tenacity, and creativity.
“We are overjoyed by Kenechukwu’s outstanding performance.
“Her success embodies our core values of integrity, perseverance, and innovation. We invest heavily in cutting-edge teaching methods—from flipped classrooms to AI-driven language labs—so that every student can discover their potential and lead with confidence,” Adebogun said.
Uba thanked her teachers, classmates, and family, stating that practising in the school’s language lab boosted her confidence.
“From the moment I joined Caleb, I felt inspired by teachers who challenged me to think deeply and by peers who encouraged me to persevere. Preparing for the speaking endorsement in our state-of-the-art lab sharpened my confidence. This recognition belongs to everyone—my mentors, my classmates, and my family,” she said.
Caleb British International School described the honour as evidence of its dedication to producing globally competitive pupils through excellent learning facilities and strong character development programmes.
