Katsina United have refuted claims that their supporters invaded the pitch and attacked a Barau FC player during their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) matchday 12 fixture at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium.
Barau FC’s media director, Ahmad Gwale, alleged that midfielder Nana Abraham was stabbed in the neck by a pitch invader moments after his team equalised in the 69th minute of Saturday’s 1-1 draw. Gwale claimed the attacker came from either the Katsina United bench or their supporters, armed with a “sharp object”.
However, Katsina United dismissed the allegations as false, insisting that the match’s tense atmosphere, fuelled by “contentious officiating decisions,” never escalated beyond control.
“The discontent was managed within the confines of order and security,” the club said in a statement, adding that it “remains committed to professionalism, discipline, and fair play.”
The club further accused Barau FC of exaggerating events and said it would leave the matter to the League Management Body to investigate and take appropriate action.
