The Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has contributed N100 million to the victims of the recent fire at Kantin Kwari Textile Market.
Sanusi Tofa, the governor’s spokesman, issued this statement on Thursday.
According to Tofa, the Kano sntate governor announced the donation on Thursday during a visit to the market to express his condolences to the traders.
The governor clarified that the donation was not intended to compensate for the losses but rather to reduce the effects of the disasters.
“The donation is not meant to compensate you, but to support the affected traders and alleviate their suffering,” Yusuf was quoted as saying in the statement.
During the visit, Yusuf promised to enhance market conditions by installing solar lighting, repairing the road network, building drainage systems, and supplying motorised boreholes, among other things.
He told the traders that the state administration was committed to Kano’s continued prominence as the economic hub of Northern Nigeria and neighbouring West African countries.
The Managing Director of the Kantin Kwari Market Management Board, Hamisu Nama, informed the governor that the fire destroyed 29 establishments.
He did, however, express gratitude to firefighters and good Samaritans for their rapid response.
Sabu’u Bako, Chairman of the Market Elders Committee, thanked the governor for his concern and asked for aid in resolving the market’s ongoing operational challenges.
