Harry Kane set the record as the fastest player to reach 100 Bundesliga goals, his brace helping Bayern Munich rout Union Berlin.
A brilliant hat-trick by Michael Olise, plus fine goals from Jamal Musiala and Ismael Saibari, completed the seven-goal demolition as the reigning German champions kept their unbeaten start to the season intact.
England skipper Kane converted a 39th-minute penalty after Olise was brought down in the box by Tom Rothe, the 33-year-old driving the spot-kick into the corner to reach his century milestone.
The ex-Tottenham forward hit that mark in Germany’s top flight in just 98 matches—fewer than any other player in the league’s history.
Kane grabbed his second of the evening and his 101st Bundesliga goal by heading home Olise’s excellent cross in the 54th minute.
That lifted his total to 152 goals in 154 appearances across all competitions since joining Bayern in 2023.
Musiala fired Bayern who wore special kits to mark Oktoberfest ahead in the 18th minute with a superb strike from 20 yards following good work by Alphonso Davies down the left.
After Kane’s penalty, Olise curled his left foot around the ball from the edge of the area and found the net two minutes before half-time.
Saibari made it five, the summer signing from PSV producing a neat finish in the 70th minute for his first Bayern goal.
Frenchman Olise sealed his hat-trick with two goals in three minutes, first rounding Union Berlin goalkeeper Frederik Ronnow to score off the post, before the former Crystal Palace winger netted the goal of the night with another left-footed strike from distance.
Just how impressive Kane’s speed to 100 Bundesliga goals is becomes clear from the fact that the previous record holder needed 31 more appearances to get there.
Dieter Muller’s century came in 129 games for Cologne, which is nearly the difference of a whole league season.
Bayern legend Gerd Muller comes next on the list with 136 games, while ex-Borussia Dortmund forward Lothar Emmerich needed 140 and Uwe Seeler took 157 at Hamburg.
Kane has now scored seven goals in as many matches against Union Berlin, with Stuttgart his favorite opponent, with 10 in seven against them.
The England striker netted a remarkable 61 goals in 51 games last season in all competitions for Vincent Kompany’s side and has six in seven so far this term, underlining exactly why he is a leading contender for the Ballon d’Or when it is announced in London on 26 October.
“I’m very proud to reach 101 Bundesliga goals,” Kane told Sky Germany.
“In the short time I’ve been here, I’ve loved every second of it. When I’m playing with these players, I’m going to get chances.
“To have more goals than games is obviously a great stat to have.”
If he hits the heights of earlier campaigns, reaching 200 goals across all competitions is certainly within his reach this season.
Kane’s current contract expires at the close of this season, yet if he puts pen to paper on a new one, he might well be pursuing double figures in the Bundesliga.
“I’m extremely happy here,” he added. “The talks are ongoing, and they’ll be ongoing for the near future. You can see the way I’m playing and the way I connect with the fans.”
