Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja has denied a motion for his recusal from the ongoing prosecution of Godwin Emefiele, former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Justice Oshodi ruled on Wednesday that the defense’s charges of bias were baseless and that there was no evidence to justify his departure from the case.
The defense, led by Olalekan Ojo, requested the judge’s recusal on Monday, citing bias in previous rulings.
However, Rotimi Oyedepo, counsel for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), argued that the proceedings were fair and equitably conducted.
After reviewing the arguments and legal authorities cited, Justice Oshodi ruled that the application lacked merit and dismissed it.
“The claims of bias have not been substantiated by either of the defendants.
“Accordingly, the first and second defendants’ recusal application is refused,” the judge ruled.
