South African court on Thursday, sentenced radical left-wing opposition leader Julius Malema to five years in prison for discharging an assault rifle during an eight-year-old rally.
Hundreds of red-clad followers of the Economic Freedom Fighters party leader gathered outside the court to await the sentencing in the politically heated case.
Magistrate Twanet Olivier stated that Malema intentionally broke weapons prohibitions by firing a rifle into the air at an EFF celebration in 2018.
