Dr. Juliet Ehimuan, Google’s first West Africa Director, has announced her resignation from the firm.

She made the news on LinkedIn on Friday, expressing her desire to take on a larger role in the regional technological sector.

She was Google’s Country Director for Nigeria prior to her assignment as West Africa Director.

During her tenure as Director, the Google team in Africa successfully taught over 6 million Africans digital skills, trained 100,000 engineers in web and mobile development, and developed a Google for Startups accelerator exclusively for African tech entrepreneurs.

Furthermore, under Ehimuan’s leadership, important access projects were executed, including the expansion of the Google Station programme in Nigeria and the deployment of Google’s Equiano fibre cable, which spans from Portugal to South Africa, connecting Africa with Europe. These initiatives have played a significant role in enhancing internet accessibility and affordability for millions of people in Nigeria and beyond.

Her leadership in committees like the National Economic Summit Group (NESG) and the Presidential Committee is responsible for creating the national broadband plan in 2019, which has been influential in shaping the ICT strategy of the region.
