Jose Mourinho has paid tribute to his late father, Jose Mourinho Felix, with a photograph of the two shared on Instagram.

Jose Mourinho’s father, Felix passed away on Monday aged 79.

Manchester United shared the news of the death on their website today as they offered condolences for their manager who became their coach last summer.

“Everyone at Manchester United is extending sincere condolences to Jose Mourinho and his family, following confirmation that the manager’s father, Felix, has passed away.

Jose shared this special moment with his father on Instagram

A post shared by Jose Mourinho (@josemourinho) on Jun 25, 2017 at 1:10pm PDT

“Felix was a former professional goalkeeper for Vitoria Setubal and Belenenses, and he represented his country, Portugal, on one proud occasion before embarking on a coaching career.

“The Portuguese clubs he managed included the two he had played for, as well as Rio Ave and União de Leiria, where his son Jose would later take charge in 2001/02.

“Our thoughts are with Jose and his family at this sad and difficult time”.

Speaking to BT Sports in May, Jose said: “My father was a good manager.”

“He was in the Portugal Premier League eight or nine years, he was champion of the Championship there four times.

“So he was a good manager in that generation. But I always felt he could and should be much better because he didn’t have that extra piece of confidence, of desire and I wanted to be better.

“I wanted to try to be better.”
