England defender John Stones has announced that he will leave Manchester City at the end of the season, bringing an end to a decade-long stay with the club.

The 31-year-old, whose contract expires this summer, joined City from Everton in 2016 for £47.5 million and went on to play an important role in one of the club’s most successful times.

During his career at Etihad Stadium, Stones helped City win six Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, two FA Cups, and five League Cups.

According to BBC Sport, Stones reflected on his experience and stated that he had accomplished what he set out to do at the club.

“It has been my home for the past 10 years, and it will be my home for the rest of my life.

“I lived all my dreams out and lifted all the things that I came here to achieve,” he said.

Stones was one of Pep Guardiola’s early signings and credits him for helping him improve.

Under Guardiola, he developed as a versatile defender, even playing in midfield during crucial matches such as City’s 2023 Champions League victory.

Despite his success, Stones’ final years at City were marked by injuries, which limited his appearances in recent seasons. He played rarely in the current season but remained an experienced member of the club.

Stones’ departure signifies yet another important shift in the City squad as it continues to evolve. He exits as one of the club’s most decorated defenders, having played a key role in their domestic and European success.

With his departure finalized, his focus will now shift to his next destination as he prepares for the next stage of his career.
