Israel vows no water, fuel for Gaza until Hamas frees hostages

The Israeli administration has stated that there will be no humanitarian respite in the siege of Gaza until all hostages are released.

Israel announced this amid mounting anxiety about decreasing water, food, and fuel supplies following a sixth night of bombardment in response to Hamas‘ fatal strike over the weekend.

Israel’s energy minister, Israel Katz, stated on social media that no “electrical switch will be turned on, no water hydrant will be opened, and no fuel truck will enter” until the “abductees” are free.

Israel is prepared to launch a land assault in reaction to Hamas’s brutal atrocities in 20 Israeli communities last weekend, which included the kidnapping of scores of hostages.

IDF attacks killed 33 Palestinians in two hours overnight on Thursday, increasing the death toll in Gaza to 1,200. Houses were destroyed in various localities, and civil defence volunteers discovered the remains of the dead.

Six neighbourhoods in the strip have been damaged since the violence began, according to the article.

The World Health Organisation reported that eighteen healthcare facilities and 20 ambulances were damaged, and 11 healthcare workers were murdered, in the most severe bombing campaign the strip has seen in the 16 years since Hamas took control of the tiny, overcrowded enclave home to 2.3 million people.

The UN claimed late Wednesday that the number of people displaced by the bombings had increased by 30% in 24 hours to 339,000, with two-thirds of them pouring into UN schools.

According to Palestinian media, the blast killed Mohammed Deif’s brother, Hamas’ military commander, and a top commander from Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

The crossing point between Gaza and Egypt, Rafah, remains blocked, and the single power plant ran out of gasoline on Tuesday, leaving the strip powered by sporadic private generators. If fuel is not allowed in, those will also shut down.

The death toll in Israel has risen to 1,200. According to Lt. Col. Richard Hecht, an Israeli military spokesperson, units are prepared for a ground assault, but the political leadership has not yet ordered one.

The prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has vowed to “crush and destroy” Hamas. He leads a newly formed unity government and war cabinet, including members of the opposition.
