The Israeli military reports that it has initiated a series of strikes throughout Lebanon after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the nation will escalate its assaults on Hezbollah.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that it had carried out attacks on Hezbollah in the Bekaa Valley in eastern Lebanon and additional regions of the nation.

Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed Shia Muslim militia in Lebanon, announced it had responded with 22 drone and rocket assaults, targeting Israeli soldiers, tanks, barracks, and structures.

Earlier this month, Lebanon and Israel reached an agreement to lengthen a 45-day ceasefire, although some clashes have persisted.

In a video address on Monday night, Netanyahu stated that Israel is “at war with Hezbollah” and instructed the military to “deliver them a devastating blow.”

Netanyahu stated that Israel’s military action against Hezbollah had “removed… more than 600 terrorists.”

He added,”But what this requires of us now is to increase the strikes, to increase the intensity.”

Two Israeli ministers from the far-right, Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben Gvir, have demanded the military campaign’s expansion, which includes Beirut.

Hezbollah stated it had deployed drones and rockets to target locations in southern Lebanon and northern Israel on Monday, citing what it described as Israel’s “breach of the ceasefire.”

Representatives from Lebanon and Israel, lacking official diplomatic ties, are set to continue discussions in Washington next week.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has called for a total Israeli pullout from southern Lebanon.

Following the signing of the ceasefire agreement on 16 April, Israeli assaults have mainly been limited to the southern region of the country, where Israeli forces are stationed and from where Israel claims drones and rockets have been fired.

The Bekaa Valley, which was hit on Monday night, is located in eastern Lebanon, near the Syrian border.
Israel’s campaign expansion coincided with the Iranian government’s assertion that any emerging peace agreement with the US must entail a total ceasefire across all fronts of the regional conflict.

The government of Israel has resisted the idea of ceasing hostilities against Hezbollah.

Since the ceasefire with Lebanon was established, ten Israeli soldiers have lost their lives. Over 400 individuals in Lebanon have died due to intense Israeli shelling during this time, with numerous paramedics and emergency responders among the casualties.

Israel has been giving almost daily directives for Lebanese residents to evacuate their houses in new regions in the southern part of the country, increasing the total number of displaced individuals to over one million.

Lebanon became involved in the ongoing conflict following the US and Israel’s declaration of war on Iran on

February 28. Hezbollah, a partner of Iran, launched rockets at Israel in response to an Israeli attack that resulted in the death of Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Israel launched an airstrike campaign throughout Lebanon and initiated a ground invasion, resulting in over 3,000 fatalities due to Israeli assaults, as reported by the Lebanese Ministry of Health.

The government of Lebanon has been working on efforts to disarm Hezbollah but asserts that a ceasefire is essential to accomplish what it describes as a complicated task.
