Iran missile strikes sparks explosions over Tel Aviv

Recent missile barrage from Iran triggered a series of explosions over Tel Aviv as firefighters battled to put out a fire in a residential building in Israel’s commercial hub.

The bombs occurred after Israel escalated its campaign against Hezbollah, vowing vengeance on the Tehran-backed militant group for joining the battle following the assassination of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on Saturday.

Iran’s state media said that Tehran had launched missiles “against targets in the heart of Tel Aviv” after Israel’s military announced it was attempting to intercept incoming Iranian fire late Thursday.

AFP correspondents in Tel Aviv witnessed two nearly simultaneous waves of explosions rippling around the city.

In Netanya, a city on Israel’s Mediterranean coast north of Tel Aviv, rocket trails illuminated the sky.

Following the barrage, Israel’s emergency services, Magen David Adom (MDA), claimed its teams had visited multiple alleged impact sites but found no injuries.

Israeli police said it was “currently handling scenes involving fallen projectiles in central Israel,” adding that there was “damage” but no injuries.

A projectile struck a building on the outskirts of Tel Aviv, causing people to escape.

At another residential area near Israel’s commercial hub, firemen worked to extinguish a fire started by falling debris after an Iranian missile salvo was intercepted.

Early Friday, Israel’s Home Front Command issued three rocket-fire alerts to areas near the Lebanon border.
