Iran announced Saturday that a man was executed for supplying Israeli intelligence with details on Iranian missile sites.
Judicial authorities stated that “the death penalty was carried out against Hossein Pedaran, who had provided the Mossad with information on missile sites in Isfahan province” in central Iran, though they did not specify when he was arrested or brought to trial.
Pedaran had been accused of “espionage and intelligence collaboration” on behalf of Israel.
According to the judiciary, his sentence was confirmed by the Supreme Court.
Iranian authorities have ramped up arrests and executions linked both to the Middle East war that started in February and to the nationwide protests that reached their peak in January.
Missile sites have been bombed repeatedly over the course of the war. At the outset of the war, supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed.
Isfahan province, home to Iranian nuclear sites, has been among the areas most heavily struck during the war.
In August, the judiciary reported the execution of two men accused of having “transmitted the coordinates of sensitive military and security sites” to Israel.
According to rights groups, Iran ranks second in the world for the number of executions carried out, behind only China.
