Samuel Ortom, the immediate past Governor of Benue State has described the current state government invading of his automobile workshop as a plot to torment, persecute him.
Ortom announced this through his former spokesperson, Terver Akase, in response to the Benue state assets recovery committee raiding his ‘automobile workshop,’ where roughly 30 vehicles were hauled away.
According to AIT, the claimed vehicle workshop is located along Makurdi Otukpo road in Makurdi, Benue State’s administrative capital, and is supposedly owned by Ortom.
Akase, in response to the development, described the action as an attempt to disgrace his principal by any unconventional methods.
Several Toyota Hilux cars were seen being transported away from the workshop in a video uploaded by AIT on its Twitter account.
Commenting on the issue, committee member Hinga Biem stated that the exercise had begun in recent weeks, with the government tracing moveable and immovable properties thought to be owned by Benue state.
He stated that the committee is focusing on houses purchased between 2015 and 2023.
Ortom served as governor for two terms under the All Progressives Congress (APC) commencing in 2015 before transferring to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he was re-elected in 2019.
