Impossible for Inter to replicate last season’s UCL feat – Inzaghi

Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi claimed it would be impossible to replicate their run to the Champions League final last season as the club prepares for its opening game of the season against Real Sociedad on Wednesday.

Last season, Inter lost 1-0 to Manchester City in the final of Europe’s best club competition in Istanbul, thanks to a second-half strike from Rodri.

“Last season’s run to the final was a great journey; this year it starts against a strong team,” Inzaghi said to reporters on Tuesday.

“We’ll play it like we did last year, knowing it’ll be difficult to replicate what we did, but we want to try again.”

Inter has started the season very well, winning four of their first four games in Serie A to take a two-point lead over second-placed Juventus.

Inter’s attitude has grown stronger as a result of their efforts last season, according to Inzaghi.

“It was a fantastic ride, not to mention the difficult group we had to overcome.” Now comes the difficult part, but the guys understand that by working together, we can accomplish great things,” he remarked.

Sociedad, on the other hand, has had a disappointing start to its domestic campaign, finishing 11th in La Liga with only six points from five games.

Inzaghi, 47, warned that Sociedad, who finished fourth last season, posed a strong challenge to Inter.

“They’re a very organized team,” he observed, “with a coach who has been there for many years and many players who have stayed.”

“We know it will be a difficult, intense match because Real Sociedad is an intense team with excellent players who are good, strong, and technical.”

“We’ll have to be good at helping ourselves and defending as a group before attacking as a group.”

Inter are in Group D, which also includes Sociedad, RB Salzburg, and Benfica.
