Cardiff City have signed Middlesbrough striker Uche Ikpeazu on loan for the rest of the season.

Cardiff had shelved interest in Ikpeazu last week because Middlesbrough wanted a fee for the former Wycombe player.

However, the Bluebirds revived their interest after Boro agreed to a loan move on transfer-deadline day.

Ukpeazu, 26, has scored three goals in 21 appearances for the Teesside club this season having been handed a three-year deal by Neil Warnock last summer.

But Chris Wilder, who took over from Warnock in November, had “made it perfectly clear” to Ikpeazu that he was not in his plans.

Cardiff turned to Ikpeazu after a loan move for Stoke City’s Sam Surridge fell through earlier on deadline day.

    • Transfer Deadline: Dele Alli signs for Everton

Ikpeazu is a replacement for Kieffer Moore, who has joined Bournemouth.

Harrow-born Ikpeazu has also played for Heart of Midlothian, Cambridge United, Blackpool, Port Vale, Crewe Alexandra and Doncaster Rovers.

Cardiff midfielder Kieron Evans, meanwhile, has joined Northern Irish side Linfield on loan for the rest of the season, while defender Tom Sang has agreed a loan for the remainder of 2021-22 with Scottish Premiership club St Johnstone and Northern Ireland international defender Ciaran Brown has joined Oxford United on loan until the end of the season.
