Ijaw youths have condemned in totality reports by Vanguard Newspaper that the attack on military personnel in the Okuama community in Delta State was carried out by youths of the ethnic extraction.

While reacting to the report titled ‘Irate Ijaw youths kill army commander, others in Delta’ published by Vanguard Newspaper, youths of the ethnic extraction took to popular networking site X to condemn the report.

Reacting to the allegations, an X user identified as Faceco e-wire urged Vanguard Newspaper to put their publication right, stating that the incident occurred close to his location.

Refuting reports that the crime was committed by the said youths, he noted that the killings were carried out by Uhrobo youths.

“Please put your facts right. It’s not Ijaw youths but rather Uhrobo youths.

“Okoloba is the Ijaw community, while Okuama is an Uhorob community under Bomadi LGA.

“Both communities were under land dispute, which led to the kidnapping of the late Aboh by the Uhrobo youths.

“The military personnel went for peace talks with the Uhrobo community, which they later opened fire on.

“Please put your facts right before posting. Ijaw youths didn’t kill anybody,” he said.

“The Okuama, where the incident took place, is not an Ijaw community, but you ethicized it. What a false reportage,” Tari Walton wrote.

In his reaction, Moses Siloko Siasia noted, “This is not true! I wonder why some media outlets in Nigeria cannot invest in investigative journalism. Okuama is not an Ijaw community.”

Accusing Vanguard newspaper of spreading “fake news,” Eniekebi Joseph wrote, “Fake news. The military men were killed in an Urhobo community named Okuoama in the Ewu kingdom in the Ughelli South local government area. Verify before you publish Vanguard.”
