Nigerian twins, Hussaini and Hassan Malami, have secured employment with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) as members of the NNPC Tigers Class of 2026, despite one of them initially hesitating to apply over a misconception about the company’s recruitment process.

Adaobi Oniwinde, Senior Communications Advisor at NNPC Limited, mentioned the account in his profile on Monday.

Hussaini, who had always wanted to work for NNPC, applied when the opportunity arose and pushed his twin brother, Hassan, to do the same.

Hassan, on the other hand, was first hesitant, assuming that the NNPC only recruited one individual from each household and not wanting to jeopardize his brother’s chances.

He was also interested in joining the Nigerian Air Force and previously worked in the financial sector.

According to the profile, Hassan decided to apply after Hussaini’s relentless urging and as the application deadline approached.

The twins then took the computer-based recruitment test on the same day but in different places, Hussaini in Sokoto and Hassan in Kaduna.

Following a recruitment process that included interviews, both brothers were given employment letters on the same day.

Hussaini stated that he discovered the job offer after midnight and was delighted to share the news with his family.

“I opened the email after midnight and wanted to wake everybody up to tell them,” he replied.

Hassan stated that when he awoke, he learned of his successful application via the family WhatsApp group.

“That’s when the pressure hit me. I was now nervous about the possibility of not being successful once Hussaini shared his news,” he said.

Both brothers eventually secured employment at NNPC, with Hussaini joining NNPC Exploration & Production Limited and Hassan joining NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company.

Hassan’s new job has introduced him to areas of Nigeria’s gas sector that he was previously unfamiliar with.

“I didn’t know there was a whole business dedicated to transporting gas,” he said.

“Now I’ve seen how gas powers plants and manufacturing companies. Hearing that gas is the future is one thing. Seeing how it is happening is another.”

Although Hassan had initially wanted a military career, he now sees his work in the energy business as a type of national service.

He stated that he still hoped to pursue military service before reaching the age limit in 2030.

Hussaini’s position with NNPC has fueled his desire to contribute to the development of the country’s energy sector.

He also indicated interest in being a guest lecturer at his university in the future, stating that he wanted to share real work knowledge with students.

“When I was in university, I only had one lecturer with field experience,” he said. “I want to share practical experience with students someday.”

The twins selected NNPC culture transformation pillars that best reflected their work styles.

Hussaini picked Enterprise First because “Giving your best to the company means giving your best to the country.”

Hassan, a civil engineer, acknowledged execution excellence and stated, “I’m a civil engineer. I like seeing things come to life from concept to completion.”

The brothers also urged young Nigerians interested in working at the NNPC to avoid rumors regarding the recruiting procedure and apply as soon as possibilities arise.

“You don’t need to know anybody at NNPC. Apply. Take the test and earn your place,” they said.
