Celebrity fashion designer Veekee James has responded to a critic who questioned why she and her husband, Femi Atere, frequently attend events together.
The criticism came after the couple appeared at TikToker Peller’s wedding. In a Snapchat post, a user identified as Laura asked why Atere always accompanied his wife, suggesting he had become “a handbag.”
Reacting to the comment, Veekee said she and her husband view themselves as inseparable partners, stressing that their lives are completely intertwined.
“My husband doesn’t have a life of his own. His life is my life. In the same way, I don’t have a life of my own; my life is his life. He is me, and I’m him. Together, we are like a padlock and key,” she said.
She added that people should expect to continue seeing them together at public events, saying those who disagree are free to have a different kind of marriage.
“When you marry your own husband, you can separate him from your life if you want. But as for mine, he is me and I’m him. You don’t know what marriage is. His life is mine, and my life is his.
“You haven’t even seen anything yet. You will see my husband and me together anywhere and everywhere possible.”
Veekee announced her engagement to Atere in October 2023, and the couple celebrated their traditional and white weddings in Akwa Ibom and Lagos in 2024.
In May, the couple welcomed their first child, a baby girl named Eliana Adeife.
