Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, an African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential contestant, has declared that he will not attend the party’s presidential primary results presentation on Tuesday.
Hayatu-Deen expressed worries about the election’s legitimacy in a message posted on his X account.
“I will not be attending the announcement of the ADC presidential election results today. I am concerned by reports from across the country of widespread vote rigging, some of which I myself observed, and will therefore be taking advice on my next steps,” he wrote.
ADC held direct primaries in Nigeria’s wards on Monday, May 25, 2026, with over three million party members supposedly able to vote.
The contest had three prominent candidates: former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor and Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, and Hayatu-Deen, a former chairman of the Nigeria Economic Summit Group.
Early results from numerous states showed that Atiku Abubakar had large leads in Sokoto, Yobe, Gombe, Imo, and Abia, fueling speculation that he is on track to win the party’s 2027 presidential ticket.
The former Rivers State governor also won in Bayelsa.
The development comes as the ADC frames itself as a prominent opposition platform ahead of the 2027 general elections, hoping to show a united front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
