Harry Maguire’s mother has issued a stern statement in response to the vitriol directed towards her son.
In recent days, the Manchester United player has been under fire for scoring an own goal while playing for England against Scotland.
It comes on the heels of his start against Ukraine on Saturday night, which garnered criticism from fans due to his limited contribution for Manchester United in recent months.
However, some of the criticism has been harsh, and Maguire’s mother, Zoe, has responded on social media.
She wrote: “As a mom, seeing the level of negative and abusive comments that my son is receiving from some fans, pundits, and the media is disgraceful and totally unacceptable to anyone in any walk of life, never mind someone who works his socks off for club and country.”
Maguire has faced a barrage of criticism this season, and United manager Erik ten Hag has demoted him to fifth-choice centre-back at Old Trafford.
