The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has named Moroccan sensation Achraf Hakimi its 2025 African Footballer of the Year, capping an outstanding season for both club and country.
The Paris Saint-Germain right-back won the prize for the first time, which was chosen by a council of specialists and renowned African football journalists.
Hakimi entered the ceremony as the clear favorite after a spectacular season with PSG, which saw the club win four major titles: Ligue 1, the UEFA Champions League, the Coupe de France, and the Trophée des Champions. He also finished sixth in the 2025 Ballon d’Or rankings.
Hakimi was a major player throughout the season, playing over 3,400 minutes in all competitions, scoring 6 goals and four assists in Ligue 1 and 5 goals and four assists in the Champions League, while helping PSG retain 10 clean sheets.
His achievements earned him selections to the UEFA Champions League Team of the Season, Ligue 1 Team of the Season, and CAF Team of the Year.
The 27-year-old defeated Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah and Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen for the prestigious honor, cementing his status as one of Africa’s top football talents.
