Mr Williams Wasiu Jimoh and his wife, Mrs Banke William Jimoh, were brutally murdered in their flat by gunmen, causing the Angwan Kari community in Nasarawa State’s Keffi Local Government Area to mourn.

The couple was reportedly killed after intruders broke into their home around midnight on Sunday, April 6.

Pastor Lee Ngbede, the Keffi Zonal Coordinator of the Fellowship of Christian Students (FCS), spoke with our reporter about the unfortunate event.

“Brother and Sister Jimoh were committed members of the FCS here in Keffi. The situation surrounding their gruesome death remains a shock to the entire Christian body in Keffi and the state,” he said.

According to Ngbede, a family member of the Jimohs received a call from Mrs. Jimoh’s father, who voiced concern after multiple calls to the couple went unreturned. This prompted a visit to their home.

Mr Jimoh’s colleague, who visited the flat, saw that the doors were locked. Looking through a back window, he noticed a terrible odour and flies, which increased his suspicions. He instantly notified the police.

When the police pushed open the door, they discovered Mrs Jimoh’s motionless body on the bed, legs apart and hands on her head, a pose that suggested rape. Her body had already decomposed.

Her spouse was discovered near one of the doors, with his hands tied and multiple machete cuts on his head, indicating that he was attempting to flee. He was unconscious but alive when he was transported to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Keffi.

An eyewitness who talked with our correspondent described the attack as deliberate, citing the couple’s isolated residence and the seriousness of the injuries inflicted.

“The police said from all indications, the woman was raped to death. After that, her neck was also slashed, and it was practically dangling,” the eyewitness claimed.

Some residents speculated that the crime was done by suspected Fulani herdsmen, citing a recent conflict between them and the deceased woman.

Other people who viewed the wounds described the slashes as consistent with prior attacks carried out by herders in the area.

Mrs Jimoh, who had no children, was buried on Thursday, April 10, with her body wrapped in fabric due to her advanced condition of decomposition and the position she was discovered in.

Mr Jimoh, who remained comatose in the hospital, subsequently died of his injuries. His burial is scheduled for Wednesday, April 16.
