Gunmen attacked the headquarters of a local security organization, codenamed OSPAC, on Erema Street in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, Rivers State, injuring one person.
It was said that the incident, which occurred at 8:10 p.m. on Saturday, led to panic as residents and passersby fled for safety.
Though the cause for the attack could not be determined at the time of reporting this report, sources stated that the attackers arrived in two vehicles, one of which was described as an ash-colored Lexus SUV.
Speaking to media on Sunday, Godknows Nkem, the public relations officer of OSPAC in Rivers State, stated that the office serves as a hub where residents may file various concerns.
Nkem was surprised, however, as the gunmen drove to the workplace and began shooting indiscriminately, leaving one personnel with a bullet wound in the ankle.
He stated, “At that hour of the day, the gunmen drove in and started shooting sporadically. Nobody died, but one of our personnel sustained a bullet injury to his ankle. Our station guards later repelled the attack.
“The fear of OSPAC is the beginning of wisdom in the entire Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA and Rivers State at large. For the past eight months, our welfare has not been catered for while we have been on board. We have been struggling to survive.”
The OSPAC spokeswoman advised ONELGA inhabitants to stay law-abiding and go about their daily routines without fear, assuring them that the offenders will be arrested.
When contacted, ASP Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the attack on the vigilante office and stated that investigations were ongoing.
Iringe-Koko stated, “I can confirm the incident. No arrest for now because the incident happened late in the night, but investigation is ongoing to unmask the identities of the perpetrators with a view to bringing them to justice.”
