Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party candidate in the 2023 governorship election in Lagos State, has berated the political elites in the state over the high spat of violence and thuggery in the state.

In a statement on X on Friday, Gbadebo alleged that  “thugs are armed by politicians and used to win elections.”

Describing thuggery as “a creation of the political elite in Lagos,” Gbadebo stated that the actions and inactions of the APC-led administration in the state have worsened youth unemployment and poverty, forcing many into drugs and criminality.”

“This is a creation of the political elite in Lagos that has enshrined a culture of violence and impunity,” he mentioned.

“These thugs are armed by politicians and used to win elections, after which the citizens are left at their mercy,” he added.

Furthermore, he added that “what is worse is that the extractive and discriminatory policy of the APC has worsened youth unemployment and poverty, forcing many into drugs and criminality.

“As long as this party remains in power, this culture of impunity will worsen. They have no intention to build a modern economy that works for everyone but a feudal system where they can share palliatives with communities who kiss the ring.”

He therefore called for “collective action in rooting out these parasitic politicians who leave behind chaos instead of prosperity.”
