Funke Akindele has criticised the management of Air Peace for allegedly leaving passengers stranded at London Gatwick Airport in the United Kingdom after a prolonged delay with little to no communication.

In a post on X on Friday, Akindele said the airline initially informed passengers of a delay caused by a “bird strike” but failed to provide further updates or adequate support afterwards.

The 48-year-old filmmaker described how passengers, including elderly individuals, had been waiting since 6:30 a.m., growing increasingly fatigued and exhausted without clear information.

“Air Peace, this is unacceptable. Passengers (including elderly people) have been stranded since 6:30 a.m. at London Gatwick Airport with no proper communication,” she wrote.

“After hours of delay, we were told there was a bird strike and promised a hotel. Hours later, people are still sitting at the baggage claim area, hungry, exhausted, and without their bags.

“Elderly passengers are struggling. Families are tired. No clear updates. No support.

“Release passengers’ luggage immediately and provide the hotel you promised. Do something NOW.”

This incident marks the latest in a series of public grievances by Nigerian celebrities over airline delays and poor communication.

In January, actress Bolaji Ogunmola slammed United Nigeria Airlines over what she called a “series of flight disruptions” that left her stranded in Ekiti State.

She said the disruption caused her to miss the first day of production for her new film.

According to Ogunmola, she was scheduled to fly to Lagos but was delayed until the next day. Upon arrival at the airport, she was told the flight was delayed and later cancelled entirely.

Airline staff assured her the next available flight would depart at 8:00 a.m., but the departure time was repeatedly pushed back—first to 9:30 a.m., then to 12:00 p.m., and finally to 5:30 p.m.

She stated that the continuous postponements led to major professional and financial setbacks, as she had invested between N15 million and N20 million to launch production of her film.
