The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) apprehended at least 281,421 traffic offenders across the country between January and June.

According to its spokesperson, Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Bisi Kazeem, those arrested committed 307,554 infractions.

Driving with worn-out or expired tyres, risky driving, cell phone usage while driving, overspeeding, route violations, overloading, and refusing to wear a seatbelt were among the infractions he highlighted.

“The Corps arrested 281,421 people for committing 307,554 crimes across the 36 states of the federation and the FCT,” he stated.

ACM Kazeem also told newsmen that the usage of body cameras by FRSC operatives since 2021 has enabled it to better use technology in its field operations.

He went on to say that the technology had also helped to reduce infractions of traffic laws and regulations and that it had been beneficial during patrol and surveillance activities.

“The device’s impact on general Corps operations cannot be overstated.”

“It aids in traffic monitoring, rescue operations, and real-time data collection for decision-making.”

“The device is also useful in keeping operatives focused and determined while providing service with dignity,” Kazeem explained.

He reminded motorists to follow all traffic laws and regulations and to properly maintain their cars before driving on the roadways, emphasizing that there would be no waivers for breaches.

According to the FRSC spokesperson, only adhering to best practices for road usage will ensure the safety of all road users.

“Road traffic accidents are prevented if motorists carefully follow traffic laws,” Kazeem told reporters.
