Davide Frattesi fired home an 88th-minute winner to secure a dramatic 2-1 victory for Inter Milan over Bayern Munich in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final, snapping Bayern’s remarkable 22-match unbeaten home run in the competition.

Despite a growing injury list, Bayern started brightly, with Michael Olise threatening early and setting up Harry Kane for a near miss that clipped the outside of the post.

Inter, though slow to find their rhythm, managed to keep Bayern at bay before turning the tide just before halftime.

Carlos Augusto’s low cross caught Bayern’s defense off-guard, allowing Marcus Thuram to cleverly set up Lautaro Martínez, who finished with finesse into the top corner to give Inter a surprise lead.

The Italian side came out strong in the second half, with Martínez again testing Jonas Urbig, but Bayern regrouped and began to dictate the tempo. Their pressure paid off late in the game when Konrad Laimer’s cutback found Thomas Müller, who made no mistake in equalizing.

However, Bayern’s joy was short-lived. In a lapse of concentration, they allowed Nicolò Barella to find Augusto, whose unselfish pass set up Frattesi for a calm finish that stunned the Allianz Arena crowd.

The defeat leaves Bayern with a mountain to climb, especially with history against them—Die Roten have never progressed in a European knockout tie after losing the first leg at home.

Inter, meanwhile, look poised for a historic campaign, chasing a treble with the Serie A and Coppa Italia titles also in sight.
