Frank Edoho blasts Lagos property prices, calls real estate ‘armed robbery’

Nigerian TV host Frank Edoho has criticised the rising cost of properties in Lagos, describing the country’s real estate sector as “armed robbery”.

Speaking on the KK Podcast, the 54-year-old broadcaster lamented the soaring prices of luxury homes, arguing that they bear little relationship to the quality of infrastructure available.

Edoho compared property values in Nigeria with those in the United States, citing a social media post claiming that Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio purchased a private island in the US for $1.7 million.

He contrasted that with a mansion in the Osapa area of Lagos, reportedly priced at about $1.5 million despite the area’s poor drainage infrastructure.

“The real estate industry, I think, is armed robbery. I saw a post that Leonardo DiCaprio owns an Island in America. The cost of the Island is $1.7 million,” Edoho said.

“There is a house in Osapa; they call it a mansion. It is $1.5 million. Osapa that has no drainage.”

The veteran presenter also questioned how such expensive properties are being purchased in an economy where many workers earn relatively low wages.

“Where is the money coming from? Look at the minimum wage of workers working in government. Is it up to N100,000? Where are these people getting money? The economy is down,” he added.

Edoho’s remarks come months after he faced widespread public attention over the collapse of his second marriage to Sandra Edoho.

The TV host revealed last year that the marriage ended in December 2022 and later said he no longer intends to commit to a single partner.

Following the separation, allegations of infidelity and domestic abuse surfaced. Sandra accused Edoho of having multiple extramarital affairs and alleged that he threatened to kill her.

In May, Edoho denied all allegations of infidelity and domestic violence, stating that the matter is now before the courts for legal determination.
