Nottingham Forest has fired Ange Postecoglou following the team’s 3-0 loss against Chelsea at the City Ground.

Postecoglou’s departure from Forest, 39 days after his hiring on September 9, marks the shortest managerial tenure in Premier League history.

The former Tottenham manager failed to win any of his eight games in charge of Forest, with two draws and six defeats in all competitions.

Forest earned just one point from Postecoglou’s five Premier League games in charge, putting them one point above the relegation zone in 17th place.

“Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect,” a Forest statement read.

“The club will make no further comment at this time.”

Postecoglou’s exit means Forest are looking for their third manager this season, having fired Nuno Espirito Santo after three games.

Fulham manager Marco Silva is said to be a top candidate for the job, while former Burnley and Everton manager Sean Dyche is also a contender.

Postecoglou’s brief reign at the City Ground began with a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal before being eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Swansea City.

Draws with Burnley in the Premier League and Real Betis in the Europa League opening were followed by a 3-2 home defeat by Midtjylland, during which a portion of Forest supporters screamed “You’re getting sacked in the morning” at the former Celtic manager.
