Duchess Lounge, a popular spot for socialites in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, has been left in ruins after a fire outbreak razed the property.
Although the actual cause of the fire is unknown, eyewitnesses believe a rapid power surge, compounded by the dry conditions, may have started the blaze.
Our correspondent, who was on the scene, claimed that the entire first level of the lounge was entirely damaged.
All furniture, sound systems, and other assets were burnt to ashes.
Joseph Kunini, the lounge’s owner and former Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, expressed disbelief over the incident.
“It is a sad development and a huge loss, but we thank God no lives were lost. We had just completed a comprehensive renovation of the lounge, including new furniture, in preparation for our third anniversary on December 30,” he said.
